Wild Half Term
Half Term Activities
Here's our pick of the top ideas to enjoy this half term! Our wildlife friends will be very grateful for everything you do to protect them.
1. Come and say hello to Willoughby the hedgehog and pick up a Nature Activity book
Join us at Grebe House in Verulamium Park, St Albans, and visit our Wildlife Garden. We will have Willoughby (a giant willow weaved hedgehog) there and plenty of children's activity guides to give away.
2. Make your own bird feeder
As the autumn draws to a close, many of our native birds, such as Robins and Blue Tits will struggle to find food. We can give them a helping hand by creating bird feeders.
3. Become a leaf detective on a half term nature walk
Join us on 26th and 27th October at 11am - 3pm for a guided walk in Panshanger Park. Activities include a spotter guide for identifying fallen leaves, autumn scavenger hunt and autumn themed crafts.
4. Help save the hedgehogs
Learn all about hedgehogs and what you can do to help them in your gardens by reading this handy guide.
5. Send us your Wild Snaps!
Get practising for the Under 16s category of next year's Wild Snaps photography competition. Take a walk in any of our nature reserves and snap what you see, then share these snaps with us by tagging us and using the hashtag #WildSnaps.
6. Build a Bug Mansion
Build your own bug mansion and attract a multitude of creepy crawlies to your garden.
7. Have a plastic free Halloween
Halloween is often a great time for spooky family fun, but unfortunately it is often full of plastic. Help wildlife and nature by reducing plastic use this Halloween.
