Pledge a pond for wildlife!
Help Us Create More Ponds and Wetlands in Hertfordshire!
Wetlands cover just 1% of Hertfordshire, and between the 19th and 20th centuries, we’ve lost 50% of our local ponds—many thousands in total. More than 350 species in Hertfordshire are closely associated with ponds and wetland habitats. Adding water, especially a pond, is one of the most effective ways to bring more wildlife into our gardens, schools, and community spaces.
Why Should You Add a Pond?
Support Local Wildlife
Ponds are biodiversity hotspots they are home to many species of plants, insects, and amphibians. They provide vital shelter, food, and breeding spaces as well as a source of drinking water for many birds and mammals.
Climate Benefits
They help with water retention and flood prevention, and act as carbon sinks.
Aesthetic and Educational Value
Ponds create beautiful, tranquil spaces and provide learning opportunities for children and adults alike.
How You Can Help:
- Pledge to Add a Pond: If you have space in your garden, school or community area, commit to adding a pond. Even small ponds can make a big difference.
- Register Existing Ponds: If you already have a wildlife pond, add it to our map to help us track the locations and sizes of ponds across Hertfordshire.
- Spread the Word: Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to add ponds and join our map.
When you pledge, we will send you helpful resources to guide you in creating or enhancing your pond. Together, we can help protect and grow Hertfordshire’s wildlife!
Add Your Pledge: Fill in the details below, and let’s get started.
