About the reserve

The surrounding areas are frequented by deer and many species of birds. Nearby Therfield Heath, which can be accessed from our reserve, is one of the most extensive remaining areas of chalk grassland in eastern England with parts becoming covered in hundreds of beautiful Pasqueflowers in the spring. During winter the reserve attracts visiting birds such as fieldfare and redwing.

Spring: Buzzard, white helleborine, red kite, sparrowhawk.
Summer: Blackcap, chiffchaff, willow warbler.
Autumn: Chaffinch, meadow pipit, wheatear.
Winter: Blue, great, long-tailed tit, goldcrest, treecreeper.
