With a team of volunteers, we care for wild places to create space for nature and help communities create their own wild places. We help people experience the wildlife on their doorsteps and to take action to protect it.
Join the Trust as a Volunteer to support a variety of teams at our offices at Grebe House, St Albans!
We have identified a support need across a couple of our teams, and are seeking one or more enthusiastic Administration Support Volunteers who can provide this crucial support in our beautifully located offices in Verulamium Park, St Albans.
This role will support the Business Support Team with HR, H&S and general facilities and office admin. as well as provide support to the Membership team with membership administration, and preparation of regular membership communications and Welcome Packs, helping to care for and sustain the support of our regular donors. There may also be ad hoc support needed across other teams – the Administration Support Volunteer will be vital in providing this support where it is needed.
Role location:
The Trust Office, Grebe House, in Verulamium Park, St Albans
Role responsibilities:
- Front of house enquiries such as answering enquiry phone calls and email
- Maintaining a variety of spreadsheets and documents relating to HR, H&S, facilities, and general admin
- Assisting with Stationery/First Aid stock takes
- Assisting with room booking for events
- Supporting the team with general office administration
- Helping with occasional event prep
- Packing and sending out our new member Welcome Packs for new members and for Wildlife Watch families
- Packing and sending out our membership letters and other supporter communications
- Stock-checking for the membership and engagement teams
- Checking, scanning and filing supporter documentation and records
- Researching areas where the Trust can grow our community fundraising e.g. looking into local supermarket giving schemes
- Retracting equality and diversity data for recruitment purposes
- Providing support with projects (such as collating & researching information for reference purposes)
- Some support may be required during the recruitment processes
Skills and experience you will need:
- Competence in using Microsoft Office – needed for some elements of the role
- Organisation and attention to detail
- Regular availability and reliability on a weekly basis
- Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
- Willingness to work as part of a team
- Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection

Volunteer training and support:
- Induction training covering an introduction to the work of the Trust and information on our policies and procedures
- Mentoring with an experienced staff member to guide and review your activities
- Training on membership administration and office support
- Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed with prior approval
Anticipated time commitment:
This role could be carried out by one or a number of volunteers, with our ideally 12 hours split across Monday and Fridays.
Support for the Business Support and Membership teams will take priority, but there may be an opportunity to support other Trust activities on an ad hoc basis and as needs arise.
