CaSTCo

The River Beane is taking part in a citizen science project running across England and Wales to monitor rivers called CaSTCo or Catchment Systems Thinking Co-operative.

We are one of nine groups taking part in understanding how we can work together in partnership with the Environment Agency,  water companies and most importantly enthusiastic local people to find the best ways to monitor rivers to give meaningful data. We are hoping to analyse the data gathered to help work out which actions can be taken to make improvements to the river and the wider catchment.

We are currently working with FreshWater Watch to monitor nitrates, phosphates and turbidity on a monthly basis, and are also using bankside surveys called Mudspotter and Outfall Safari to investigate where pollutants and sediment are entering the river.

We welcome new volunteers - discover how you can play your part in improving the health of our rivers here.
