Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a leading voice for wildlife conservation across Hertfordshire and Middlesex. As a charity, we rely heavily on volunteers to help support and deliver our busy programme of events and engagement. 

We want to reach as many audiences and communities as possible, and this is only possible with the help of our amazing volunteers leading and assisting with our events. You could lead children/family activities at community events, provide support for our larger scale events such as Wildfest, lead with creative nature based activities or help at guided walks through our nature reserves.

The role:

• Leading and assisting with family, children and youth activities.
• Helping out at Trust events and delivering Trust activities at local community events
• Leading and assisting with guided walks
• Encouraging communities to take action for wildlife

Role location:
Flexible depending on volunteer location and willingness to travel

Role responsibilities:

• Act as an ambassador for Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust
• Enthuse a new generation about wildlife
• Promote active involvement from all, no matter how small the action

Skills and experience you will need:

• Confident in working with families and children
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public
• Enthusiastic about wildlife and the work of the Trust
• Willingness to work as part of a team
• Willingness to work in accordance with all relevant Trust policies and procedures including Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
• Willingness to apply for an Enhanced DBS Certificate. 
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding training.

Volunteer training and support

• Induction training covering an introduction to the work of the Trust and information on our policies and procedures.
• In person training on how to lead and assist events.
• Mentoring with an experienced staff member to guide and review your activities
• Health & Safety training.
• Reasonable travel expenses can be claimed with prior arrangement
• Branded clothing for use at Trust events

Anticipated time commitment:

• Very flexible – time commitment to suit volunteer
• Support for engagement work will take priority but there may be an opportunity to get involved in other Trust activities

In person training on Friday 10th May and Saturday 11th May in St Albans (both sessions will be the same content, and you need only attend one session)
