About the event

The River Mimram is a chalk stream which flows through the centre of Panshanger Park. Chalk streams were described by Sir David Attenborough in Wild Isles as 'One of the rarest habitats on Earth'. Join volunteer Jane as she talks about these habitats, the wildlife dependent on them and the geology that forms them.

The talk will include geology including gravel quarrying and restoration at Panshanger, why chalk streams are rare, why they and their wildlife are under threat and what is (and isn't) being done to reverse the damage.

This event is part of the Heritage Open Days scheme weekend at Panshanger Park. Please do take some time during your visit to have a look in the stables and the other activities going on during this event.

The event will be indoors. Please note that there will be approximately 20 steps to access this talk- there are no lift facilities.
