About the event

Come and explore areas of Panshanger Park not usually open to the public- there’ll be guided walks, talks, information stands and family activities based at the Old Stables.

Panshanger Park has seen many changes over the last 250 years. From a large country estate landscaped by Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton, to a sand and gravel quarry and now a country park great for wildlife and for visitors to explore. During this Heritage open weekend, come and see the old stable block which was part of the Cowper estate in the early 1800’s- and a working stable until 40 years ago.

Now offices, you can still see the original stalls and tiling as it was when accommodating horses. There will be information about the history, geology and wildlife of the park. And for a more in-depth explore of some of the features from the Cowper estate or a wider explore of the site, then sign up to one of our guided walks or talks. Children’s activities will be available.

Once you have explored the stable block, please enjoy the rest of the park looking out for other remnants from the old estate, including the house site, the Orangery, and the famous Panshanger Oak, as well as the wonderful wildlife that lives here.

If you or your family members  have any photos or memories  of Panshanger park then please do  bring them along  to share on our memory wall (Copying facilities will be available).

Parking will be available near to the Old Stables. From the B1000 look for the White lodge building and Tarmac signs. Enter through the metal gate and follow the track along until there is a right fork with signs to ‘Area Office’. Continue along this track for the car parking.
